We are deeply saddened to share that Kirk Hawkins, our co-founder and former CEO, passed away in a wingsuit accident in the Swiss Alps.

Kirk started ICON Aircraft in 2006 with a vision to revolutionize recreational flying. As a former F-16 pilot with engineering and business degrees from Stanford, he had the flight experience and business acumen to turn that vision into reality.

For over a decade, Kirk brought together an incredible team of engineers, designers, pilots, and aviation professionals. He didn’t just hire talented people — he inspired them. Working with Kirk meant being part of something bigger than building an airplane. He led ICON in reimagining what personal aviation could be.

Our thoughts are with Kirk’s family and friends during this difficult time.

Shang Gong Group, a globally listed industrial company based in Shanghai, has acquired Flight Design General Aviation GmbH and its subsidiary, Flight Design CZ, which will continue operating in the Czech Republic. The acquisition aligns with SGG’s strategy to strengthen its aviation portfolio and advance its commitment to high-quality, safe, and efficient aircraft.

As part of the acquisition, ICON Aircraft will collaborate closely with Flight Design to leverage synergies between the two companies. Together, they will drive innovation, increase production, and improve delivery timelines, enhancing customer experience. “We’re excited to welcome Flight Design into the family,” said Yongwu Chen, Vice President of Shang Gong Group. “With both ICON and Flight Design under the same umbrella, we’re poised for accelerated growth and a stronger presence in the aviation industry. This partnership will allow us to innovate further and create even greater value for our customers.”

Additionally, we are pleased to announce Lily Hu as the new President of ICON Aircraft. With extensive experience in manufacturing and proven leadership, she will drive ICON’s success and collaboration with Flight Design. “It’s an exciting time for ICON, and I am honored to take on this role. Together with Flight Design, we will enhance our product offerings and expand our reach in the global aviation market,” said Lily Hu.

ICON Aircraft is pleased to announce the successful completion of its asset sale to SG Investment America. Substantially all assets of ICON Aircraft have been officially transferred, and the new company will continue to operate under the name ICON Aircraft.

Outgoing CEO Jerry Meyer expressed his gratitude for his tenure at ICON Aircraft, stating, “It has been an incredible honor to lead ICON Aircraft and work with the brightest and most passionate group of people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. I want to extend my deepest appreciation to every team member for their dedication and hard work. I wish them and the company nothing but success in this exciting new chapter.”

Jason Huang, who joined the company in 2020 as President, will be leading the company through this transition period. He shared his enthusiasm for the future, saying, “I am thrilled to be guiding ICON Aircraft into its next phase of growth and development. Our focus will be on ensuring a smooth transition and capitalizing on new opportunities that will drive the company forward. The future holds great promise for ICON, and I am excited to see what we can achieve together.”
